So much happens at Hebrew for Kids, It would not be possible for us to give you the complete lesson each week without filling up at least a few pages with text, pictures, sounds, crafts, songs, comments, drama, creativity, imagination and even smells. So please accept our short words and descriptions as an insight into the happenings in our classroom and encourage your children to tell you all about what they learn each week.
Remember that Hebrew is an integral part to our curriculum and that every session at Hebrew for kids has a time slot dedicated to the Aleph Champ reading curriculum and all our lessons have Hebrew words and language interwoven into the lesson.
Enjoy our updates:
Sincerely, Hebrew for Kids Staff. :)
We had another wonderful Tuesday afternoon at Hebrew School. This week we learned the first letter of the Hebrew Alphabet – Aleph. We put together an Aleph puzzle and practiced drawing the letter Aleph on the whiteboard. We learned that the Hebrew words for Mom and Dad – Ima and Abba, both start with the letter Aleph. We had fun making our own Ima and Abba portraits.
This week we also learned about a mitzvah that starts with the letter Aleph: Ahavat Yisrael – loving your fellow Jew. We role played different Ahavat Yisrael scenes and discussed different ways that we can show Ahavat Yisrael in and out of our classroom. We really enjoyed making Ahavat Yisrael friendship bracelets.
Story time is a favorite in our class! This week we read a fun story about Ahavat Yisrael.
Have a nice week,
Samantha

What a wonderful day at Hebrew for Kids!
Here's what we loved doing today!
Jewish Studies - Torahpedia:
Today was our second lesson in our Torahpedia workbook!
We learned a new Mitzvah for the letter 'Bet'. The Mitzvah is called 'Bal Tashchit' which means 'Do not waste'.
Some points we covered:
1. Hashem wants us to respect the value of everything in the world, and therefore we should not waste or destroy anything! We each received a toothbrush and showed the rest of the class how we brush our teeth. Some kids left the water running while they were brushing their teeth, while others shut the water off. We discussed how we can save water, by shutting the faucet while we brush our teeth!
We each came up with other examples of how we can try not to waste in our day to day lives.
2. Hashem gave us the job of protecting the world! Humans are controlled by their intellect and therefore we have the choice and responsibility to take care of the world! We discussed and understood what the difference between humans and animals is. Humans have the gift of intellect, whereas animals are controlled by their emotions. Since intellect is higher than emotions, human beings were appointed caretakers of Hashem's world!
We each created our own part of the ecosystem - We planted a bulb garden. By recycling old egg cartons - we saw how recycling is an important step in not wasting!
3. We incorporated a few new Hebrew words into our lesson this week.
Flower = "Perach ". World = "Olam". Tree = "Aitz". Sun = "Shemesh"
Aleph Champs Hebrew Reading:
Our class is full of Aleph Champs! Today, we worked through our workbooks and each child is improving and developing new skills! I am so proud of all of them!

Jewish Studies - Torahpedia
Today was our first day of our new Jewish
Studies curriculum - Torahpedia!
Torahpedia is an encyclopedia of Judaism’s Fundamental Mitzvot, Morals &
foundations of our faith. • i.e. Jewish Birthdays, Kosher, Hebrew Names,
Tallit, Jewish Calendar.
The Mitzvah (commandment or good deed) we learned today was Ahavat Yisroel -
To love your fellow. Below are a few points that we discussed:
1. We all have something in common called our Neshama - A soul. Therefore we are all connected, like family. Even though we may look different on the outside, we are all united through our Neshama. When we think about this, it helps us fulfill the special Mitzvah of Ahavat Yisroel - Loving our Fellow . we each did a compare and contrast sheet to discover how we are all really so similar.
2. A very important principle of this Mitzvah is “Do not do to others what you wouldn’t want done to you”. We talked about different situations that we don’t want done to us. For example: We wouldn’t want someone to make fun of us, therefore we shouldn’t make fun of others. We discussed how each of us can integrate this Mitzvah into our everyday lives.
3. Sometimes it can be hard for us to love someone. It can help, by focusing on their strengths, and not their weaknesses. We illustrated this point by sending candy grams filled with compliments to each other:)
4. We integrated 5 new Hebrew words in our lesson today. Each week we will be adding new Hebrew words to our vocabulary
Aleph Champs -
Hebrew Reading
Aleph Champs is
always fun! Today, we played a game of Bingo with to strengthenour letter
recognition, some of us got into pairs and timed each other - seeing how
quickly we could read Hebrew words. We worked through our workbooks, applying
all the skills we have already learned, and each child at their own pace,
learning new letters and vowels.
