Letter received from school counselor
"This family is coping with great difficulties financially & emotionally. Mrs. X is extremely sick. She suffers from
a condition in her pancreas that has worsened and made her be in and out of hospital frequently. For example during this month, Mrs. X has been in hospital two times already. She also suffers from high blood pressure. Her two daughters are developmentally delayed and the youngest one has has vision and speech problems. She also has a significant growth in the upper part of her face. At this time, Mr. X is also waiting for an operation that will take place as soon as the insurance approve it.
This family of 4, have been living without electricity since September 2010 and using a generator which is bothering their neighbors, for the noise, which has led them to violate one of the housing codes of the city of Sunrise.
The family is currently, receiving Medicaid, food stamps and disability benefits however the reason for the delay in FPL payment has been the reduction in working hours due to the rainy season.
Mrs. X submitted an application for the LEAP program, however it was explained to her that there are plenty application in a long waiting list.
